Lost Skills in a Digital World

Lost Skills in a Digital World

Along with conversation patterns changing, students are missing questions on standardized tests that they never missed before.

90% of my students consistently missed analog clock questions on our math assessment this year. When asked why they thought so many missed those questions, several students quickly recognized the reason. "I think it is because we don't have dendrites around reading analog clocks, because we are used to digital clocks," one student shared.

Since analog clocks are still being used, it is a skill we need to address more deliberately than in the past. I recommend children wearing watches with analog faces, or changing their Apple watches to the analog display.
